David de Gea or Dean Henderson? Rio Ferdinand picks his Manchester United number one goalkeeper

Rio Ferdinand has picked David de Gea as his number one goalkeeper at Manchester United, despite Dean Henderson's recent form. Henderson has taken the role of the keeper at the club as De Gea has travelled to Spain for the birth of his first child. The Red Devils' young goalkeeper managed to keep clean sheets in games against Crystal Palace and Manchester City, however, Ferdinand thinks he needs time to reach his teammate's quality. Asked if Henderson can be United’s future number one, Ferdinand said on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube series: "Listen, it’s a battle. "But you’ve got to listen to what Ole said in the press conference after: he’s got the shirt for now until De Gea is back. That’s what he said. "So it looks like once De Gea comes back, he’ll be back in the team. And, at the end of the day, De Gea is the number one keeper there. "He’s been brilliant for many seasons. Yes, he’s had the odd blip here and there but, listen, how many times has he won Player of the Year? Four times. No keeper in the history of Man United has done that." Then he added: "Dean Henderson did what he was meant to do. ‘He went in there and looked commanding. So it’s down to Ole now. We have to wait and see what he does. "It’s difficult. We all know it can be rosy this week and not the next. "Listen, I hope he does well, young English goalkeeper, but at the moment I’ve got to be honest, I’d go with David de Gea for his experience, he’s the number one goalkeeper."
