Former Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge has offered his support to Jordan Henderson after England suffered a defeat in EURO 2020 final against Italy.
The Three Lions opened the scoring just two minutes into the game as Luke Shaw scored, however, in the second half, Leonardo Bonucci equalized and the game was taken to the extra time. After the extra time, the score stayed the same (1-1) and the game was decided on penalties, where Italy celebrated a 3-2 victory.
Following the game, Henderson took to Instagram and sent a message: “Hurts even more this morning, this team deserved more. Been incredible to be a part of this campaign and see the joy it’s brought fans around the country after a very tough 18 months or so.
“We gave absolutely everything and I am so proud of the lads for what they’ve done over the last few weeks. To see the growth of individuals and as a collective has been incredible, the character we’ve shown, the desire and sacrifice for each other has been something really special.
“It says a lot about the lads who took a penalty last night, huge courage, but we win and lose as a team and we will learn from this experience.
“Thank you all for your incredible support, we didn’t manage to get over the line in the end but we will be back, this is just the beginning.🦁🏴❤️.”
He received many messages and one of which was from Sturridge as he wrote: “Proud of you mate.”
