Cristiano Ronaldo could be handed the number Sir Alex Ferguson denied to give upon his return to Manchester United.
The Portuguese star may receive the No 7 shirt he wished for when he first joined the Red Devils back in 2003.
On Friday night, United confirmed Ronaldo’s comeback to Old Trafford.
Last month the Daily Mail reported, that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to ask Edinson Cavani to give up his jersey number in order to hand it to Jadon Sancho.
It’s possible that Solskjaer may again decline to ask the Uruguayan for the number 7 to be handed to Cristiano, as Cavani still remains in his plans.
However, rules state that the South American, who is already registered with the No 7 strip, must leave for the Portugal international to take it.
For that, the Ronaldo must receive permission from the league’s board.
