Speaking after a 5-2 victory against Jelena Ostapenko, Gauff was asked about Federer as she is managed by the Swiss star’s Team 8 agency and spoke about the advice she received from him last year.
“He did give me some advice at the Australian Open in 2018 when I lost in the first round,” Gauff said. “He told me not to focus too much on the pressure or the outside drama. He gave me some perspective. Now, I try to enjoy the tennis and I barely think of that first-round loss two years later.”
