Chelsea taking Kai Havertz transfer gamble as pressure mounts on Marina Granovskaia

The pressure is rising on Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia to make a move for Kai Havertz before the Blues' hand is potentially weakened following last night's 3-2 loss against West Ham. Chelsea were sitting in fourth place after beating Manchester City but the defeat at the Olympic Stadium has thrown the battle for Champions League football wide open. Granovskaia may want to continue her trend of acting decisively in the market if she is to land her next target. Chelsea signed Ajax ace Hakim Ziyech and RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner. It may now be crucial that Granovskaia does the same when making an approach for Havertz. The pressure is on Granovskaia to convince Havertz that he will be able to play the highest level of European football under Frank Lampard. If Havertz's deal is not wrapped up by then Granovskaia will be taking a huge risk. It was thought Leverkusen were holding out for a fee in the region of £90million for the Germany International. But their fifth-placed Bundesliga finish has apparently knocked £20m off the price tag. Source: Express
