Chelsea submit official opening offer for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz

Chelsea have reportedly offered their first formal bid for Kai Havertz after Petr Cech jetted to Germany this week to meet Bayer Leverkusen chiefs and the player himself. Frank Lampard wants to sign Havertz, after the arrivals of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. Transfer expert Ian McGarry claims Chelsea officials flew to Leverkusen this week and were satisfied enough to make an opening bid. The Blues have apparently tabled a £45million up-front fee with £9m in add-ons. Leverkusen are not expected to reject that proposal as they are holding out for a figure closer to £81m. "Chelsea's pursuit of German international Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen has progressed a little bit," McGarry told the Transfer Window podcast. "It is our understanding that Chelsea met with Bayer Leverkusen officials this week. Petr Cech had visited Leverkusen to speak to officials there and the player about a possible move to Stamford Bridge. That has resulted in an opening bid of 50m euros plus 10m euros in add-ons. "Leverkusen continue to value the player at 90m euros. That is something Chelsea feel is not a fair price for the 21-year-old. However, they are obviously keen to get the player and are willing to pay." Source: Express
