Chelsea need one 'top-class' signing to compete for Premier League title - Danny Murphy

Chelsea need to sign a "top-class" central defender to be Premier League title challengers next season, according to Danny Murphy. Chelsea have already agreed to sign attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech from Ajax for £33.3million and Germany striker Timo Werner is set to sign for around £49m. The Blues currently sit fourth in the Premier League table and Murphy has been seriously impressed by Lampard's start in the role. "I've enjoyed watching Chelsea since Frank took over," Murphy told talkSPORT. "They go for it, they play with good energy, they've got very, very good players, they're creative and they have a go in games. "It's got a lovely balance that side at the moment between experience and youth and I think the signs are really, really positive for Chelsea supporters." Murphy is impressed with the additions of Ziyech and Werner. But he added: "It's interesting with Chelsea because you can argue that the ban gave them the platform and less pressure if you like to put the youngsters in, who have thrived when you think about [Tammy] Abraham and [Mason] Mount and [Fikayo] Tomori and those types. And now with the additions of Ziyech and Werner, you're going to have that really nice balance. "Yes, they're probably going to lose Pedro and Willian, who are two terrific and experienced players. But I think Chelsea will be competitive next season. I would probably suggest [they need a] top-class centre-half maybe in the next window. But I really like watching them and I think Frank's doing a terrific job. "I think he's gone about his business very, very well and there seems to be a real confidence and a buzz about the place, which is great. The Premier League needs all the top teams buzzing and competing. I think we'll be looking forward next season to a much more competitive league." Source: Express
