Chelsea have announced the signing of defender Thiago Silva. The centre-back, 35, have signed a one-year contract with the Premier League club with an option for a further 12 months.

The Blues have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of highly-rated Brighton defender Ben White. According to talkSPORT, White is set to sign a new long-term deal at Brighton.

Tottenham have been linked with a shock move for former Chelsea striker Diego Costa, who has been put up for sale by Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their preparation for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign with a number of players self-isolating following an outbreak of COVID-19 at the club. Frank Lampard’s side returned to training for pre-season this week ahead of the Blues’ first Premier League fixture against Brighton on September 14, but several players have been forced to go into quarantine. The Sun reports that key first-team players such as Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic and Fikayo Tomori, who were pictured on holiday on the Greek island of Mykonos, are among the players in quarantine.

Darren Bent believes Chelsea need to make more additions to their back-line despite the arrivals of Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva.

Ben Chilwell is hoping to follow in Ashley Cole’s footsteps by becoming one of Chelsea’s great left-backs. The 23-year-old penned a five-year deal with the Blues earlier this week after joining in a £45m deal from Leicester.
Chilwell told Chelsea’s website: “It’s great for myself, I’ve got that benchmark of what a great Chelsea left-back is. I grew up watching Ashley Cole play so I know how respected he is here and again that was a big reason for me wanting to come. I feel like I’m still young and I want that sort of career that he had at Chelsea for myself as well.”

The Evening Standard report that Frank Lampard is keen for two more signings this summer. Chelsea are close to finally agreeing on a deal for Kai Havertz, with a deal nearly finalised with Bayer Leverkusen. Frank Lampard is also keen on a goalkeeper, which Ajax’s Andre Onana touted as a possible option.

Sky Sports claim Chelsea are interested in signing Mike Maignan from Lille. The 25-year-old was an ever-present for the Ligue 1 club last season and would cost around £27m. Chelsea are yet to make an official bid for the keeper but he is seen as being a credible candidate to challenge Kepa Arrizabalaga for the number one spot at Stamford Bridge.

Tiemoue Bakayoko’s season-long loan to join AC Milan from Chelsea is all-but complete. The Frenchman is set join the Serie A club on a temporary basis with the option for Milan to buy him at the end. Gazzetta dello Sport report that the deal is now complete and will be announced very soon.

Chelsea take on Brighton tomorrow in their first friendly of pre-season. The match kicks-off at 3pm and will be available to view on the Blues’ official app.
