Chelsea join the race for Portuguese talent

Chelsea have joined the race for Joelson Fernandes, according to A Bola. The 17-year-old is currently in Sporting CP's academy and has attracted plenty of interest. Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering his agent is Kia Joorabchian, Arsenal are said to be leading the race for his signature. They have reportedly already made a €32m bid for his services. It’s claimed that both Chelsea and Manchester City got in touch with the player’s agent lately. They wanted to know how much it’d take for Sporting to let Joelson go, and the response wasn’t ‘scary’ for either of them. Officials from both Chelsea and Manchester City are expected to have more meetings this week, and there are ‘serious possibilities’ that one of these clubs could trigger Joelson’s €45m release clause.
