Chelsea hit by injury blow with Emerson ruled out

Chelsea full-back Emerson has been ruled out for nearly a month ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup clash against Grimsby Town. Emerson made his comeback from a tight injury in the same game but limped off after only 14 minutes. He will not return to action until after next month’s international break. Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to make his comeback after an Achilles tendon operation at the end of last season, while young defender Reece James is set to make his debut. Lampard said: “Emerson now won’t be back until the other side of the international break. It will be a few weeks because it is the re-occurrence of an injury so we have to be careful with it.” Players like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori have become the new stars of Lampard's side, with Chelsea having been unable to make new signings due to a transfer ban.
