CalcioMercato: Manchester City join race for El Chino. Agent opens door for transfer
Manchester City have joined the race for Lucas Martinez Quarta, according to Calciomercato. The player has been a regular inclusion in River Plate's squad since the start of the 2018/19 season.
The centre-back’s performances for the Argentine side have caught the attention of clubs in Europe. Inter Milan have long been interested in him and in the past few weeks, Manchester City, along with Real Madrid and Real Betis, have joined the race for the defender.
The 23-year-old’s current deal with River Plate expires in 2021 and the contract has a €22m release clause.
Gustavo Goñi, the agent of the Argentine has given an interview to TNT Sports and claimed there were many clubs following his client.
“Until before the quarantine, many clubs were after El Chino. Many clubs had come to see him. I think there will be interest again when the picture is clear,” Goñi said.
“The idea is to agree with River an opportunity for everyone, hopefully the best possible offer will come. In case that does not happen, we will have to get together and see what is most beneficial for everyone. But today we are imagining, it is a matter of waiting.”
