Brighton react to Arsenal's £50m bid for Ben White

Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly left surprised after Arsenal's £50million bid for Ben White. The 23-year-old is set to become Gunners third signing of the summer after Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga, as personal terms are agreed. Before agreeing a deal with Brighton, Arsenal saw two offers for the England international turned down by their Premier League rivals, who were holding out for the £50million fee they are to receive. And according to journalist Duncan Castles, this left the Brighton hierarchy surprised.
"[Brighton] are showing no signs of waiting to spend some of that with regards to their interest in Celtic and France international Odsonne Edouard," Castles said on the Transfer Window podcast.   "I think they've raised more than they expected for Ben White. I think there's a feeling within Brighton that it's a very successful transfer negotiation.   "They have been targeting a centre-forward in the summer window for obvious reasons.   "Edouard is available, wants to leave Celtic, Celtic want to get money for him before his contract expires next summer.   "My understanding is they have made an offer to Celtic of £18m initially with a further £3.5m in performance-related variables."
