Brendan Rodgers sends message to Leicester City's latest debutant Khanya Leshabela

Leicester City academy prospect Khanya Leshabela was handed his senior debut against Sheffield United on Sunday. The South African came on as a substitute for the final 10 minutes of the 5-0 win and became the sixth development squad talent to be promoted to the first team under Brendan Rodgers. He is the third in the past month, following in the footsteps of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Luke Thomas, George Hirst, Vontae Daley-Campbell, and Sidnei Tavares. And Foxes boss made sure to tell him to take his chance. “I said to him before he went on: ‘This is what you work all of your career for,’” Rodgers said. “‘You’ve been at this club for a long time, get out there and show your personality. Take the ball and pass the ball, and go and see if you can make something happen.’ “It’s a great reward for him. We’ve had a lot of our young players come in, especially since the lockdown period, but they haven’t played as much because of the level of the players ahead of them. “But when I see the opportunity to give a young player that feeling, and feel that reward, I will always look to do that. “He came in and didn’t look out of place, he was fine in that 12 or 13 minutes he was on. “He was unfortunate not to go on loan. We had to keep him to have him around the first-team squad and got his reward for that. “There's still a long way to go for him but he's got quality and he came into the game and showed nice confidence.” Source- LeicestershireLive Join us on Telegram!/ Follow us on Twitter!
