Brendan Rodgers rejects Jose Mourinho's assessment of Leicester City

Brendan Rodgers refused to agree with Jose Mourinho’s suggestion that Leicester City are not comfortable playing with a back five. City have set up with three centre-backs and two wing-backs for the past five matches. However, they were undone at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday as Mourinho’s men beat them 3-0. After the match, Mourinho explained that he dropped his side deeper to draw out City’s centre-backs, adding: “I knew that for them to play with this back five is not a very comfortable situation. I want to be honest with Brendan.” But when Rodgers was asked if he agreed with that assessment, he replied: “No, not at all. We’ve played it throughout the season. Of course, there’s more work needed on it, but it worked well against Sheffield United, and it’s worked well in other games. So no, I didn’t feel that was right.” Mourinho also acknowledged the unavailability of Ricardo Pereira, Caglar Soyuncu, and Ben Chilwell constituted a “destroyed” back-line for City. “He (Mourinho) recognised how well we’d played with what we had available,” Rodgers said. “It’s the same for any squad. We’re not as deep as some of the other clubs of course. But there’s no arguments and there’s no excuses. “We played well in the game, we created opportunities. Our attitude in the game was good. We’re just disappointed with a few of the bits on the counter-attack. That might just have been the intensity of what we put into Thursday’s game. I felt we were a bit leggy for parts of that game. Attitude-wise the players gave everything. We’re missing players, but that’s going to happen.” Source: LeicesterMercury
