BREAKING: The UK Government gives GREEN LIGHT to restart the season

The UK Government has given the Premier League green light to restart the season in June.  Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, has told the media the league could start, if the authorities guarantee the security of the players and the staff.  Dowden said (via Daily Mail): “Today's positive meeting I hosted with the football authorities progressed plans for the resumption of the professional game in England. We all agreed that we will only go ahead if it is safe to do so and the health and welfare of players, coaches and staff comes first.” “The government is opening the door for competitive football to return safely in June.”  He also added that the matches will be broadcasted for free, as fans are not allowed to watch the games from the stands.  At this point, Sky Sports and BT Sport hold the rights to broadcast the matches, but several new channels could be added to them in order to make the matches available for every corner of the country.  At this point, it all depends on the Premier League. The football authorities are now discussing the ‘Project Restart’ with the clubs and are yet to make modifications before confirming it officially.  The latest issue concerned the venues, as the offer to play the remaining 92 fixtures in ‘neutral venues’ caused massive controversies, especially from the clubs of the bottom half of the table.  More information to follow
