Arsenal are preparing to battle Manchester United in the race to sign Hertha midfielder Arne Maier.
The two sides have been scouting the 19-year-old throughout this season after he cemented his place in the Hertha and didn’t miss a single minute of Bundesliga action.
Maier’s transfer fee is as much as £30million, and Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is likely behind the interest.
The former Borussia Dortmund chief scout has already raided Germany several times since starting his role with Arsenal, signing the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis. And the 19-year-old could now follow in the footsteps of ex Borussia players.
Hertha are enjoying a strong season, sitting in sixth place in the table, and Maier has been key to their success.
