Blackpool on the top? How the English top flight looked last time it was suspended

The Premier League has been suspended until April 3 at least, with the season under threat to be cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak. All major events have been cancelled in order to stop the pandemic.

Currently Liverpool are on their way to win the Premier League title, with 25 points separating them from the 2nd placed Manchester City. This was the first time the league has been suspended for 81 years since the outbreak of World War II. But how did the the league table looked back then? On Friday, September 1, Germany invaded Poland during the 48th season of the Football League and it was abandoned after just three matches played. And here are the competition results before the outbreak of the war. Blackpool were leading the standings after overcoming Brentford and Wolves 2-1 and winning Huddersfield Town with a 1-0 score. Sheffield United were the 2nd second, while Arsenal and Liverpool took the next two spots in the standings. Manchester United were on the 9th place, while Chelsea on the 12th place, with both clubs having one win, one draw and and one loss.
