If I told you before the season that Bayern vs Leipzig match will be the central game of the first part of the season, you would laugh and move on. Bayern Munich

Carlo Ancelotti’s side surprisingly lost to Rostov in Champions League 3 goals to 1. Taking this loss as an accidental one, Bayern are in a good form overall, having defeated the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and Wolfsburg.

RB Leipzig

Leipzig are limited to one major competition which gives them an advantage of having more time to prepare for the upcoming fixtures. They were going without a single defeat up until the 13th round when they were unexpectedly beaten by Ingolstadt. Nevertheless, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men are undoubtedly the biggest surprise of the Bundesliga season and have already proved that one shouldn’t joke with them.

Bayern Munich

Carlo Ancelotti could switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation again here to give Thomas Müller the chance to start in his favourite position of the central attacking midfielder after his team struggled to break down Darmstadt with Carlo’s preferred system 4-3-3 last weekend. Javi Martínez is expected to occupy the place of the injured Jérôme Boateng at centre-back. On the other hand, Arjen Robben looks ready to return from injury and start on his right wing, while Franck Ribéry will most likely return on the left flank as well.

RB Leipzig

Bernardo could start as the left-back, with Marcel Halstenberg being a doubt for the game as he has picked up a thigh injury. If so, Benno Schmitz would come in for Bernardo at the right wing of the defence. Naby Keita is also doubtfiul to recover from a hamstring injury and could be replaced by captain Dominik Kaiser.

Possible Lineups

Both Bayern and Leipzig will place their best possible starting elevens. Below is our variant of the possible lineups.

bayern lineuplineup leipzig

  • Leipzig have the best record of any promoted side at this stage of a season ever.
  • The UEFA Champions League is a realistic goal for Hasenhüttl’s side: 15 clubs have boasted 36 points at this stage of a season before, with 12 going on to be crowned champions, two finishing second and one finishing fourth.
  • Bayern are the Bundesliga’s best side on home turf; Leipzig the Bundesliga’s best side away from home.
  • This will be Hasenhüttl’s 50th Bundesliga game as a coach.
  • Bayern have the highest average age of any Bundesliga side this season (27.9); Leipzig have the youngest (24.1)
  • The Bavarians have won their last 25 games against promoted sides: the last time they failed to do so was against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in August 2010 (2-0 defeat).
  • Lewandowski has scored against 17 of the 18 current Bundesliga clubs: if he finds the net against Leipzig, he will be the only active player to have scored against every current Bundesliga club.
  • Bayern’s Javi Martinez is yet to lose a Bundesliga game in 2016.

Michael Ballack

Like all the fans around the world, former Germany international and Bayern Munich star Michael Ballack can’t wait to see the big game today in the evening. Speaking to, Ballack said, “We’ve got a great finale coming up here before the winter break, and it promises to be a game of the highest order. It should be very tasty indeed, because both teams have a lot of skill and like to get forward, they have plenty of attacking options. RB Leipzig have come in with a new way of doing things, and they have made a lot of investment in infrastructure, while Bayern have been dominating for several years. It’s a fascinating set-up.”

I believe this isn’t going to be an easy walk for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this evening. Leipzig have already proved that they fight till the end no matter who is the rival. Their hard work is paying off and I think that this game will see them playing a tense football. I think that the match will end in a draw which is rated with 4.80 coefficient. Probably, the score will be 1-1.
