Bastian Schweinsteiger has been told to punish Manchester United by seeing out his contract “until his last day”.
The World Cup winner has been frozen out completely under Jose Mourinho and was not even named in United’s Europa League squad.
Mourinho only recently recalled Schweinsteiger to first-team sessions after weeks training with the club’s youngsters, and the 32-year-old is yet to play this season as he approaches the final 18 months of his deal.
Now his former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has advised him to take United for every penny he can before quitting football for good.
“If I were him, I would make the people in Manchester pay until his last day,” Hoeness, quoted by ESPN, said on a visit to a Bayern supporters’ group. “That’s what this club deserves for what they’ve done to him. They should be punished.”
