Barcelona identify back-up target if Lautaro Martinez move fails

Barcelona have identified Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak as their back-up target in case of failing to sign Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez. The Catalan giants have been linked with the move for Argentina international for a long time amid the interest from Real Madrid and a number of Premier League clubs. Martinez's contract at Inter contains a £96m release clause, while the player himself is eager to unite with Lionel Messi. However, Barcelona's wish to sign the player could be under threat, with the first-team squad agreeing a 70 per cent pay cut during the coronavirus outbreak. The Spanish champions will have to sell before managing to trigger Martinez’s release clause. Otherwise, they will have to target cheaper alternatives. Hence, Swedish international Isak is considered to be the back-up target if the deal for Martinez won't materlialise. The 20-year-old has shown an impressive game this season, scoring 14 goals, including a double against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.
