Arsene Wenger opens up on Real Madrid approach

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has opened up his reason why he turned down Real Madrid in the past and hinted about his possible move to Santiago Bernabeu. The Frenchman has admitted he previously rejected the Spanish giants approaches – one of the teams most frequently linked with tempting him away from north London. The ex-Arsenal boss is a frontrunner to become Zinedine Zidane’s successor after the 45-year-old confirmed his intentions to step down as manager in a press conference. "Real Madrid, I think I turned them down two or three times. They are one of the teams I loved as a kid but I felt it was a very sensitive period for Arsenal. "When we built the stadium, the banks asked me to commit for five years. The first time, it was inside the five years and I thought 'I cannot do that, it would be betraying my club',” Wenger told beIN Sports.
