Arsenal are preparing to offer Granit Xhaka a new contract this summer, after Roma failed to make a suitable transfer offer.
The Swiss captain's current deal was signed in 2018 and he still has 2 years remaining in his contract.
Xhaka was open for transfer this summer, even though he was always happy to stay.
The Gunners were reportedly asking for €20million from Jose Mourinho's Roma, yet the fee appears to have been too high.
However, the player returned to London Colney last week and is training currently.
With Xhaka now expected to stay, Mikel Arteta's side could hold off making a move for a central midfielder this summer in order to improve other areas of their squad.
