Unai Emery wants to find five potential captains in his Arsenal squad.
The Gunners have a void to fill following the retirement of former skipper Per Mertesacker, who hung up his boots at the end of last season to run the club’s academy.
The new Gunners boss said: “My idea is to know every player and to know their personality.
“Then my first idea is to have five captains in the team. But at the moment I don’t know the names.
“Koscielny is the first captain now, and I have respect for that. Then we are looking for players whose personality is the best in the dressing room.
“We want to keep the respect for these players and to find the captain.”
He added: “I want a team with confidence, personality, and intensity. I want them to be protagonists in each match. I want all the players showing their best quality on the pitch in each training session and each match.”
