AS Monaco star Alexander Golovin has admitted in an interview with a Russian football commentator Nobel Arustamyan that West Ham were interested in him during the January transfer window. But the Russian star explained, why he decided to stay with the Monegasques instead of making a move to the Premier League.
“Yes, West Ham were interested in me,” agreed Golovin when asked about the links with the Hammers.
“Yes, it’s the Premier League, but I decided that I’d been here a long time and we [AS Monaco] have more chances to play in the Champions League or Europa League. That’s why I’ve decided to stay.”
When Arustamyan suggested that the move to West Ham could have been a little step back for Golovin, the player agreed.
“West Ham are a small step back. If it is an offer from a really top club, then it is a step forward and should be done.”
Golovin joined AS Monaco in 2018 from CSKA Moscow after incredible performances during the World Cup.
