Aaron Ramsdale has revealed he's been surprised by his instant rise at Arsenal after leaving Sheffield United.
The 23-year-old moved to the Emirates Stadium from Bramall Lane in the summer for an initial fee of £24million.
Ramsdale has earned the trust of head coach Mikel Arteta and when
asked by the Independent how he'd assess that start to life at his new club, the goalkeeper replied:
“Possibly the best month I could have wished for.
“It is not something I expected so soon. I believed in my ability to get into the team but I thought it would take a while transitioning to the way they play, new team-mates, getting into the team helping them out.”
Ramsdale is currently on international duty with England, as he has his eyes set on becoming his country's number one, saying:
“I have the self-belief that, yes, I could hold down the position.
“First and foremost, I have to get in the team and that’s one of my goals at the moment. I’m just trying to learn and take it step by step but over time that’s one of my aspirations.
“When I came in, I got told to be myself.
“My character is to be loud, be a leader and show passion. I also knew that I might have to shake things up in a positive way and my own way.
"I think it is well documented that they were missing leaders but I don’t think we’ve all turned into leaders all of a sudden. The team that is playing at the moment is just full of confidence and working well together. We’re all leaders in our own way.
“The bigger the pressure, the more I thrive.”
