The world football has to wait for its return, after being suspended due to coronavirus outbreak. Yet, this is not the only issue that Premier League clubs face, with some of the players nearing to the end of their deals.
Newcastle also have their own list of footballers, whose contract expires in summer, making them free agents.
Let’s take a look on them and see whether they have chances to extend their deal with the Magpies.
Manquillo has joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid back in July 2017. Since his arrival, the right-back has struggled to secure his place in the first-team squad. Though he managed to impress during the last Premier League matches and is keen on staying with Steve Bruce’s side, the Magpies are seemed to have no intention of extending his contract.
Meanwhile, three Premier League clubs were reported to have been interested in the defender, with West Ham leading the race for the 25-year-old. It is likely, that Hammers will be Manquillo’s next destination.
Carroll rejoined his former side Newcastle from West Ham last summer. Since then he has made 13 Premier League appearances, and in spite of his limited playing time, ha managed to provide 4 assists in just 508 minutes of the league action.
Now the Magpies are looking for the 31-year-old ‘s contract extension, with the club boss Steve Bruce wishing to keep the forward at St. James’ Park.
The youngster was included in Newcastle’s first team at the age of 19. This term he has made 13 appearances in all competitions, having scored 3 goals for the club.
Due to his impressive performances, the 20-year-old has already been targeted by a number of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Club Brugge, Inter Milan, Atalanta, Everton and West Ham. Longstaff himself has no intention to stay with the Magpies. However, the midfielder’s future still remains unclear.
The England professional has joined the Magpies in 2014. This term he has kept 6 clean sheets in 5 appearances he made.
Now, as Darlow is nearing to the end of his contract, United haven’t revealed about the possible contract extension. Earlier the player himself refused to comment on his contractual situation. However, it is understood, Darlow has an extra year, which means he will stay at St. James’ Park till 2021.
Since joining the Magpies back in 2014 with a free transfer, Colback was sent on loan to Nottm Forest several times.
It is more likely that Newcastle will not extend the midfielder’s contract, with Steve Bruce not having the 30-year-old in his plans.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper joined Newcastle back in 2011.
This term Elliot hasn’t played any game for the club, and his future at St. James’ Park seems to be over, with another goalkeeper Martin Dubravka stating his No 1 place at the team.
Since joining the team in 2015 from Newcastle U23, Sterry has struggled to state his place in the first team. The years passed, with the 24-year-old playing on loan for some Premier League 2 sides, including Coventry and Crewe Alexandra.
After returning from his last loan move, Sterry has been included in the club’s 2nd team. Previously the right-back has been told he is open to leave the club. Hence, it is understood, the Magpies will not take any steps to keep the player at the team.
Newcastle loanees, including Tottenham’s Danny Rose, Schalke 04’s Nabil Bentaleb, Inter Milan’s Valentino Lazaro and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Jetro Willems, are also expected to be out of contract this summer.
Meanwhile, Lazaro has revealed he would be keen on returning to Inter, but he would not decide on his future until the summer.
What concerns Willems, Steve Bruce’s side are believed not to make a new contact after the left-back picked up a knee injury.
