Premier League clubs are working towards a return as the whole sports battles has been on pause since mid-March due to Coronavirus Pandemic. Liverpool are waiting to be crowned Premier League champions for the first time, next season’s European competitors must be decided and the relegation picture is far from clear. Premier League clubs voted unanimously for contact training to return, with clubs beginning ‘Phase Two’ from May 28 onwards.
As we are already well aware who will win the Premier League trophy and it will not be a surprise, the most intriguing thing remains top-four finish and relegation zone. Our focus today, will be on the top four race.
Five or even six teams are currently battling for a top-four finish. Manchester City are second in the league and they will not lose their place. Third-placed Leicester City, fourth-placed Chelsea, fifth-palaced Manchester United, sixth-placed Wolves, seventh-placed Sheffield United and eighth-placed Tottenham Hotspur are still in the battle.
Here are five fixtures that will be deciding for the top-four finish.
Tottenham Hostpur vs Manchester United
This game will be one of the most interesting Premier League games scheduled for the first week of tournament's return. While Spurs still trying to reform under Jose Mourinho, United enjoyed the 10-game winning run and that's thanks to new arrival Bruno Fernandes. Only four points separating the two-sides and their fixture will be deciding.
Liverpool vs Chelsea
While Liverpool are likely to have confirmed the title by the time when the two sides face each other, Chelsea will still need points to secure a top-four finish. Frank Lampard's side will no doubt be looking for every opportunity to pick up points going into the final stretch.
Sheffield United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Last season, Nuno Espirito Santo's side secured Europa League finish. This year they are competing for the higher finish. Sheffield, find themselves in the heady heights of the seventh, level on points with sixth-placed Wolves. The winner of this tie would take a crucial gap over the loser with regards to the European places and would have a genuine pale in the top 4 battle.
Leicester City vs Manchester United
Leicester City have been even title contenders this season, however, they are currently third and they will no doubt be looking to finish in top-four. United, meanwhile, will need more points to dethrone Chelsea from the fourth-place.
Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
In their first meeting, Chelsea beat Wolves 5-0. But this kind of score is unlikely to be seen. A win for either side would be a crucial step towards securing Champions League football next season.
