Recent reports have linked Barcelona with a move for Newcastle United's midfield sensation, Bruno Guimaraes.
However, it appears that the Catalan giants have been monitoring the Brazilian for a while now. Guimaraes has made a significant impact since joining the Magpies and has established himself as one of the Premier League's top talents, earning a regular spot in the Brazil national team.
Several top clubs have expressed interest in him, with Xavi's team being the latest to join the list. While initial rumors suggested that the 25-year-old had a €100 million release clause in his contract allowing a move to La Liga, Fabrizio Romano has since refuted this claim.
Nonetheless, the Italian transfer journalist acknowledges that Barca's interest in the Premier League star dates back to his time in France, where he arrived in 2020.
Although a transfer for Guimaraes doesn't seem imminent, it's clear that the Spanish outfit have a keen eye on the talented midfielder as they continue to assess their options for the future.
“Barcelona have been following Bruno since he was at Lyon, but he’s way too expensive for Barca so it was never a concrete negotiation. It was impossible to sign Bruno in the summer,” Romano told Caught Offside on the Daily Briefing.
“In any case, my opinion is that €100m is fair price as he’s top player but I also feel staying at Newcastle at least for one more year would be smart decision as their project is growing.”
