Vincent Kompany sends message to Lionel Messi amid Manchester City transfer links

Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has sent a message to Lionel Messi amid the transfer talks. Barcelona star has been linked with the move to Etihad that could see the Argentina international reunited with his former boss Pep Guardiola. That came after the 33-year-old requested to leave the Catalan giants, following the club's latest form and shocking 8 - 2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Now, as City are the favorites to sign Messi, Kompany has opened up on the possible transfer, urging the Argentine to join the Premier League side. He said: “It'd be incredible for the club to have a player like him — he could help them take the next step by winning the Champions League. “I know Guardiola's way of thinking, so I can well imagine the two of them will still have a rapport. “If Messi has decided to leave Barcelona then I can only respect his decision. “Let's be clear — as a City fan, I hope Messi joins them. I can imagine Pep and Messi still have one another's phone numbers. So they can give one another a call.”
