Inter Milan and Barcelona face off on Tuesday night knowing they are both overwhelming favourites to qualify from Group B.
With group rivals, Tottenham picking up just one point so far, Inter (six points) and Barça (nine) are odds-on to reach the Champions League knockout stages at Spurs' expense.
Barça beat Inter 2-0 at the Camp Nou on Matchday 3 and will qualify as group winners with a victory in Italy. While Inter will still fancy their chances of qualifying for the last 16 even with another defeat, a result against the Spanish champions would all ensure Spurs' exit.
It seems unlikely that Messi will be risked from the start against Inter, but he could well be named on the bench, which will be a huge boost for Ernesto Valverde's team at this stage of the season.
Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen remain on the sidelines, meaning that the back five picks itself, while Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets and Arthur should continue in the middle of the park.
Radja Nainggolan made his comeback from an ankle problem against Genoa at the weekend, and the Belgium international is expected to return to the Inter XI for this match.
Icardi was left on the bench at the weekend, meanwhile, and will return to the tip of the attack on Tuesday night.
Elsewhere, Sime Vrsaljko is in line to start at right-back, with Miranda and Kwadwo Asamoah also returning to the team having been rested at the weekend.
