Top 5 players linked with Liverpool January move: What qualities they would bring to Anfield

Winter transfer window has been closed and both clubs and fans return to normality having spent the month in search throughout January. The club's success rate in the market has improved, with very few signings failing to impress once being given a run in the team. Despite Liverpool’s avoidance, several names have still been linked with the club throughout the course of the month with view to potential moves to Merseyside. Could Jurgen Klopp have benefited from bringing any of those players to the team?

Timo Werner

The RB Leipzig striker is young and talented and could be a good edition to Jurgen Klopp’s side. But reportedly, the Reds would have to shell out around €70million to land Werner. Bild say RB Leipzig have offered him a bumper new contract with that sum as the release clause. Werner could choose to stay at Bundesliga which would give Liverpool their price if they decide they want to land their man in the summer. The truth is that Jurgen Klopp would have benefited if Werner joined the Reds. He would improve Liverpool’s current situation by offering yet another dimension to their attack.

Abdülkadir Omur

Omur’s move would be the most unrealistic one. He is currently playing for Trabzonspor in Turkey. Omur is an agile dribbler with a preference to cut inside from wide areas. Omur posts good dribbling numbers, but not much else, given his Expected Goals (xG) per 90 minutes is just 0.7, and he averages about one shot per 90. Given his preferred position, he'd be competing against Salah and Shaqiri for a spot on the right flank. He's still a teenager, so there's room to grow, but not at Liverpool in the months leading up to the end of the season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Liverpool were among clubs to be linked with the player though interest from Bayern Munich was stronger. If the Chelsea player joined Liverpool he would have provided depth for the remainder of the season. Hudson-Odoi would've offered a backup option that Liverpool don't really have. He would also be able to compete with Mane for the role on the left, as Klopp encourages his attackers to play inside on their stronger foot.

Sandro Tonali

The Italian midfielder is currently playing for Brescia and it was surprising that Liverpool were chasing a player who's playing in Serie B - Italy's version of the Championship. It would take the youngster a considerable amount of time to develop an understanding of how Liverpool play and what's required in terms of fulfilling a role in the system.

Adrien Rabiot

Reports emerged that PSG wanted to offload Rabiot this month rather than lose him for nothing in the summer. But the deal wasn’t through. Rabiot would offer something different to what Liverpool currently have in his position. Rabiot's contribution would make a difference towards filling void in midfield, with him being renowned for being a very progressive midfielder. Both in terms of passing and carrying the ball forward, Rabiot excels more than most in Europe, and although that's not exactly creativity it would still be valuable and different to what's already at the club.
