TOP 15 Players out of contract in 2020

January transfer window is now over, and the players who were on the market found their new destinations or remained in the same place. However, everything could change in the summer. Every summer a number of high-profile players become free agents. Some stars can walk away from their clubs for nothing when the 2019/20 season closes. Here is the list of top 15 players who are out of contract in 2020 Timothy Fosu-Mensah Fosu-Mensah joined Manchester United in 2016 from Ajax and has been sent out on loan to Crystal Palace and Fulham. Last year, he came back to the club, after his loan deal ended. His contract with United is set to expire at the end of the season, but the club still has an option of a 1-year extension. The 32-year-old’s contract will end at the end of the season; however, the club was not an option of extension. Image Source: Getty Images Luka Modric In 2012, Modric joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur and has been one of the key players at Santiago Bernabeu. Modric managed to win Champions League title and even Ballon d’Or award. However, his contract with the club will end at the end of the season. A possible destination for the 34-year old could be Inter Milan, as the Serie A side has been interested in the Croatia international. Image Source: Getty Images Adam Lallana Lallana became a Liverpool player in 2014. Three years later, Lallana signed a new deal with the Reds, which will keep him at the club until 2020. Jurgen Klopp’s side still has an option for a further year. Image Source: Getty Images David Silva Silva joined Manchester City in 2010 from Valencia. After 10 years with the Premier League side, Silva is set to leave the club, as his contract expires with the club. The 34-year-old announced at the start of the season, this will be the last for him at City. Image Source: Getty Images Olivier Giroud Chelsea star Olivier Giroud has been linked with Inter Milan, Lazio and even with Tottenham during the January transfer window. However, he remained at Chelsea. His contract with the Blues is set to expire at the end of the season and it is unlikely that he will sign another contract with the club, as he wants to leave the club to find more playing time. Image Source: Getty Images Edinson Cavani Cavani is another star, who has been linked with a move away from his current club- Paris Saint Germain. Cavani has been linked with Chelsea, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid. However, despite the Uruguay international’s desire to join Atletico, the Spanish club didn’t make a move. It is unlikely that Cavani will sign another contract with PSG and he will be on his way out from the club in the summer. Image Source: Getty Images Nemanja Matic Matic committed his future with Manchester United in the summer of 2017. However, his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Matic has announced about his desire to sign a contract extension with the Red Devils but it remains to be seen if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will keen on to keep him. The player joined Club Brugge in the summer of 2016 and at the end of the season; his contract with the club expires. According to various reports and his comments, Meunier wants to sign a new contract with PSG. Image Source: Getty Images Tahith Chong Manchester United academy youngster Tahith Chong has been handed a chance to play with the first team, however, it remains to be seen if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has plans regarding the player. Chong’s contract with the club ends in the summer. Dries Mertens During the January transfer window, Napoli star Dries Mertens has been linked with Chelsea. But the Belgium international who joined Napoli in 2013, could be on his way out of the club in the summer, after the current campaign. It remains to be seen where the 32-year-old will end up. Image Source: Getty Images Willian Chelsea star Willian is in the final months of his contract, which ends in the summer. Willian has long been linked with a move to Barcelona. Catalan giants made multiple bids for the Brazilian last summer, however, he remained at Stamford Bridge. According to ESPN, Willian is not likely to join Catalan giants in the summer for free and he would like to stay along with Frank Lampard. Image Source: Getty Images Mario Gotze Gotze joined Borussia Dortmund in 2001 but left the club in 2013 and came back in 2016. However, at the end of the season, Gotze is set to leave the German club for the second time on his career, as the contract with the club expires. The 27-year-old was unwilling to take a 30 per cent pay cut to extend his stay at the Bundesliga side. The arrival of striker Erling Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg is likely to restrict his playing time further. Hertha Berlin are interested in signing him but he is expected to move abroad. Image Source: Getty Images Jan Vertonghen Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld were among Tottenham stars who will be free to leave the club in the summer. Alderweireld signed a new contract with Spurs, Vertonghen, meanwhile, is yet to do so. Vertonghen joined Spurs from Ajax in 2012. He could pen a new deal for another year but Spurs need to start looking long term given he turns 33 in April. Image Source: Getty Images Pedro Chelsea star Pedro joined the club in 2015 from Barcelona. The player signed last contract extension in 2018, however, it ends at the end of the season. Pedro is unlikely to sign a new contract with the Blues and the 32-year-old will be on his way out of the club. There is a possibility that the Spanish star could rejoin Barcelona for free as the player announced, the club keep doors open for him.
