Tony Cascarino urges Manchester City to sign Premier League star as a replacement for Jesus

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino urges Manchester City sign Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a replacement for Gabriel Jesus. The Gabon international’s contract at the Emirates is due to expire in 2021 and he is yet to commit his future to the north London club. Aubameyang is reportedly demanding a new three-year deal worth up to £250,000 a week. Cascarino believes the 31-year-old would be the ideal candidate to challenge Sergio Aguero for the No.9 role at City. Cascarino told The Times: "Gabriel Jesus has been at Manchester City for 3½ years and has never knocked on the door hard enough for Pep Guardiola to think. Right, he’s in the starting line-up for the next ten games’. I suspect the manager will aim to bring in another striker this summer, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang top of his list if he does not sign a new contract at Arsenal. "I don’t consider Jesus to be a natural finisher like Agüero or Aubameyang. That said, he has reasonable technique, is not bad in the air and has some pace. Guardiola will feel that, if City are to challenge Liverpool for the league title next season, he will need to sign a striker who can push Agüero for his place. "Agüero is 32 and I don’t think his body shape is conducive to continuing strongly into his mid-30s. He is powerful and muscular but does not have a flexible, supple body, as shown by his recent run of niggling injuries. ‘Aubameyang has a good fitness record so it may well be that City offer big money for him if he is available, despite his relatively advanced age of 31. "I have never had any doubt about Aubameyang’s talent, only his workrate, but I noticed that Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal head coach, got him to work his socks off in the recent wins away to Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Arteta hasn’t stopped talking about the importance of Aubameyang to the team, and I think that gives a clue as to how Guardiola feels about him. The two Spanish managers like to play the game the same way having spent so much time together at the Etihad Stadium. Aubameyang for Jesus would be a big upgrade." Source: Metro
