talkSPORT: Spurs had an advantage over Chelsea and should have signed Higuaín first

talkSPORT presenter Dean Saunders believes Tottenham dropped a massive clinger by not signing Gonzalo Higuaín in the summer, as the striker prepares to join London rivals, Chelsea. Speaking on Thursday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former Wales striker said: “What a signing that is for Chelsea. “That’s exactly what Chelsea need, a player of that ilk. He is exemplary, a great finisher and gets goals everywhere he has been. However, what are Spurs going to do now Harry Kane is injured? “They’ve finished in the Champions League twice on the bounce; they’ve got a great young manager and a great squad. “They had an advantage over Chelsea in the summer because Chelsea weren't in the Champions League and Spurs were. “If Higuaín had the option in the summer which club to go to, he maybe would have taken fewer wages and gone to Spurs because they were in the Champions League. That is where Spurs had the advantage, and they never capitalized on it. “That’s when they had the chance to sign the top players, but now they’re in a bidding war of wages which they can’t compete in against Chelsea.”
