Super League head coach issues warning about planned return to action

Warrington Wolves head coach Steve Price has stated that a plan to play three matches a week in order to complete the Super League season isn't a wise one, fearing the impact it could have on the players who are not prepared to take that kind of burden. Rugby league is coming closer to a return after the government published their road map of steps that will be taken to get the country moving again. Super League will have three months’ worth of games to make up if the idea to complete the full season as planned goes ahead. In order to fit in all the matches, discussions have been made for clubs to play three games in a week. One idea is for teams to play an Easter style double header of games Thursday and Sunday, then again the following Friday, with that system repeated on a regular basis until the conclusion of the campaign, and Price thinks it would be quite difficult. Speaking to Sky Sports, Warrington head coach said: “I understand that we need to get the games played because we need the game to survive in the north. “It is a really tough decision because the players put so much into the game and what they put themselves through in their body. To play three games a week in today’s game is a lot different to what the gentlemen used to do in the old days. There is a lot more force going through the contact and everything they do on the field is a lot faster. “I’m not disrespecting the past players but the game has changed in the last 15 to 20 years and for us to play three games in a week, I think that would be quite difficult. “Hopefully the game can come up with a sensible approach that works for both parties.” Source- Hull Live
