Spanish media: Manchester City given massive boost for Matthijs De Ligt

According to Spanish media outlet Diario Sport, Barcelona are no longer favourites to sign Ajax Amsterdam star Matthijs De Ligt. 19-year-old player has been linked with a summer move to Catalan side, and it seemed the deal is almost done, however, according to recent news, Barcelona must pay more money in order to get De Ligt. Ajax captain recently revealed he would love to play with his friend Frenkie De Jong, who has already signed a contract with La Liga champions. However, De Ligt also told reporters he’s not sure whether the deal would happen. In such circumstances, Manchester City and Manchester United are given a massive boost for Netherlands national team player. Pep Guardiola would need a long-term solution to his defense, as Vincent Kompany is leaving the club. Manchester United have also massive problems as they have conceded 54 goals during 2018/19 season. Barcelona were keen to pay 65 m for De Ligt. Now he is worth more, and Manchester City could afford the suggested price in case they make an offer to Dutch side. Source - Diario Sport
