Seamus Coleman has revealed a heartwarming gesture to his mother after becoming Everton captain.
The 31-year-old received the captain's armband in the summer after the departure of Phil Jagielka, while also being the captain for his national team as well.
Coleman has spent 11 years in Goodison Park and wears the armband with pride for every game - but made his first into a special gift for his mother, who is the leader of his family.
Speaking to
evertonfc.com, the right-back said:
“I gave my mum my first armband and thanked her for all she’s done.
“We’ve got a brother back home, he’s got special needs. My mum and dad have been incredible for him.
“My mum has been our leader at home, so I said that to her when I gave her the armband. ‘I was the leader today but you’ve been our leader’.
“For me, it always comes back to family.”
