RB Leipzig chairman claims Timo Werner release clause has not been activated

RB Leipzig chairman Oliver Mintzlaff has confirmed that Timo Werner's £54million release clause has not been activated yet. Chelsea have reportedly convinced Werner to make a move to the Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool, Manchester United are also among the clubs targeting him. Frank Lampard's side are currently in the process of identiying details of the deal, and when this is done the release clause will be activated. Mintzlaff confirmed that as things stand, the Blues are still in the discussions stage of negotiations with the forward. Speaking to Sky Germany, he said: "We haven't had an exchange with Chelsea yet. So far, Timo Werner has not drawn the clause, nor has a club sent a transfer contract. "We have nothing to report and do not take part in the daily speculation." Werner is expected to sign a contract with Chelsea this week, should that happen, he will become the club's second signing under Frank Lampard, who completed the transfer of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax back in February.
