Ranking the best U-21 players in the world this season

Transfer fees increasing by the year and the search for young talent has become ever more desperate as football’s elite fight to get their hand on the players who will become the stars of tomorrow. The future is now. These young talents have experienced a start to the career which most players could only dream off. Mbappe, Joao Felix and other stars have enough maturity and consistency to become the best player of their respective clubs. Some of the players even transformed into leaders who have led their clubs to clinch major titles this season. Here are five wonderkinds who have been on fire this season. Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen) Havertz has been considered one of Germany’s brightest talent for a couple of years. Before this season, Kai had managed to score 7 goals but in the current season, the 19-year-old has scored 16 goals. He also became Leverkusen's standout performer in the European competition despite the club's early elimination in the Europa League's knockout phase, scoring 3 goals and assisting the same amount in the process. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) Jadon Sancho’s second season in the Bundesliga will have Manchester City kicking themselves, as they let him go for only £8 million. 11 goals and 14 assists speak for themselves, and it has been a joy to watch the young Englishmen this season. The 19-year-old has transformed into one of the world's most wanted talents and has seen his value skyrocket up to more than €100 million. Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax) The Dutch has established himself as one of the world’s most prominent defenders and guided Ajax to the Champions League semifinals.  He also became the first defender to win the Golden Boy award in 2018. Apart from his impressive defensive strength and exceptional fitness, De Ligt talent also has outstanding leadership qualities.  De Ligt became the youngest ever captain in a Champions League knockout game at 19 years and 186 days old. Kylian Mbappe (PSG) Mbappe had a brilliant debut season at PSG, scoring 13 goals and providing 8 assists in just 27 appearances.  This season the French star scored 30 goals and created 7 assists in 22 games. He was one of the youngest players to win the World Cup with the French National team.  Mbappe also became PSG’s best player in the Champions League as he was directly involved in 9 goals. Trent Alexander Arnold (Liverpool) Trent Alexander-Arnold, the 20-year-old right-back, has made 100 appearances for Liverpool and accumulated 12 assists in the league this season. That only can be matched or bettered by Christian Eriksen, Ryan Fraser and Eden Hazard. Statistic underlines just how creative Alexander-Arnold is and how many points his passes have won for Liverpool since August.
