Press Conference: Pep Guardiola provides team-news update, speaks about VAR and Joao Cancelo

Manchester City’s quest for a third successive Premier League title continues as they travel to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth on Sunday. “We know each other quite well. They have the same manager four years ago. They have the same points as us. They defend deep with the 5-3-2. They attack really well. It’s always tough,” said City boss Pep Guardiola ahead of the game. City have not had the best luck with VAR. Guardiola's men had to settle for a point as a combination of Lucas Moura and VAR denied them victory over the north London side. Asked if his players are asked to stay calm after a VAR decision Guardiola said: “It’s an emotional goal when you score a goal in that way. His {Jesus} reaction was normal. He was not upset. The reaction from Tottenham players shows that they didn’t know why it was disallowed. They accepted it was a goal. The reaction of our players was normal. We have to keep going. It’s done. We have to move forward. I like VAR because it provides justice. This is the first season. It helps to be fairer to referees. I think in the end it will be right. I had the same opinion from the beginning. I support technology. But during the process, it needs time to adjust.” David Silva is the captain of the club and Guardiola praised him: “He is a nice guy. A normal guy. He has a lot of experience. Every captain is different. They have to do what he believes. They chose the captain, I’m not involved in that. He is one of the most incredibly intelligent players in small spaces. He is one of the best I’ve ever known. It’s not just the quality, he’s a huge competitor in the training matches. The Premier League is not easy, and he did it. He must be so proud. He is a technical player. My image from English football - maybe he will suffer here [England]. But I was happily wrong. After I spoke with managers he had in Spain, they spoke well. I realised that when I came here. He’s incredible. A winner.” Guardiola said that new-boy Joao Cancelo is ready and can play. “He sees what we want in training, meetings and analysis. Tomorrow, he can play,” said the Catalan. “After the international break, everyone will be involved. He’s an incredible professional.” In the end, the Sky Blues boss provided a team-news update: “Oleksandr Zinechenko is fit. It was cramp. He trained perfectly. It was a demanding game against Tottenham. John Stones is not fit for next weekend. We will see [for next weekend].”
