Pep Guardiola speaks out on Ernesto Valverde as speculation over Barcelona coach continues

Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde has been criticized and linked with a move from the Catalan club after the Champions League humiliation. The Catalan side blew a 3-0 lead in the semi finals against Liverpool as they lost 4-0 in the second leg and were eliminated. Almost the same thing has happened during the last year's Champions League when Barcelona lost against Roma and was eliminated as well. This left Barcelona fans furious as they are demanding the club board members to sack Valverde. However, Barcelona former head coach Pep Guardiola has backed Ernesto Valverde and has described him as "a spectacular coach." "Valverde seems to me, to be a spectacular coach, beyond the friendship that unites us," the former Barcelona manager told Catalunya Radio. "He has done a very good job in two years." "It is true that Valverde lost in the Champions League, we all lose. A team that wins two consecutive leagues and makes good football, I celebrate that it continues. Barcelona is still true to its style." "Coaching Barcelona? The stage as a coach has passed," added Guardiola.  "Now it is up to new generations. Whenever I can, I go to the Camp Nou."
