Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has praised Joao Cancelo and Benjamin Mendy after the club’s 2 - 0 victory over Crystal Palace.
The two central midfielders were chosen to play in defence, which didn’t seem to be so unexpected.
Though previously Mendy and Cancelo were slowly integrated to Citizens’ game, this time both managed to contribute in the club’s successful game. Despite their attacking qualities, Mendy supported Raheem Sterling, while Cancelo corresponded well with Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva on the right.
Speaking on the players’ fortunate game, Guardiola told during the press conference:
"Joao [Cancelo] had his first game away in the Premier League; it’s not the same as the Etihad. He was aggressive and has incredible quality with the ball.
"Benjamin [Mendy] as well. He was injured long-term and hopefully, he can stay because he has a special quality."
