Pep Guardiola confirms Kevin De Bruyne plan for Man City fixtures vs Everton and Chelsea

Manchester City will prioritise Premier League games when considering when to rest Kevin De Bruyne. After playing 90 minutes for City against Newcastle on Boxing Day, De Bruyne may be needed once again for the trip to Everton on Monday. Pep Guardiola could be forgiven for resting De Bruyne at Everton in order to keep him in the best condition for the trip to Stamford Bridge. However, the boss insisted he will continue to call upon De Bruyne to spearhead City's march up the Premier League table. “We need him," Guardiola said. "Kevin is one of the biggest stars in the world right now. He is an outstanding player and I know how important he is for us. Sometimes, like in the game against Arsenal, he didn't travel. I prefer to have him fit for the Premier League, especially now the Champions League is over, and focus on the Premier League. Other competitions are important but we don't want to be so far from the top of the Premier League." Guardiola warned against viewing their game in hand over most rivals as a guaranteed three points. He explained: “We have one game (in hand) against the 'surprise of the competition - Aston Villa are doing incredible. It will be an incredibly tough game against them but in the way we are going to play, we are going to find our rhythm and be close to the top of the league. Hopefully, we will arrive in the last eight or 10 games being there to fight against the teams above us.”
