Ollie Watkins left out of club’s squad amidst Tottenham interest

Ollie Watkins was left out of Brentford’s squad for the club’s League Cup clash against Wycombe on Sunday, amidst reports of interest from the Premier League clubs. The 24-year-old enjoyed a prolific season in the Championship last time out and it has not come as much of a surprise to see him linked with a move away from the Griffin Park after the Bees came up short in their quest to win promotion. The Sun (via TEAMtalk) reported a few days ago that Spurs could hijack Aston Villa’s attempts to sign Watkins. It was claimed that Jose Mourinho had identified Watkins as the perfect striker to serve as Kane’s understudy as the Brentford star’s versatility would enable him to operate both as a wide forward as well as a central striker. The report claimed that the striker was available for a fee of around £22 million this summer. Watkins was not named by Thomas Frank in the matchday squad as the Bees overcame Wycombe on penalties over the weekend to progress into the third round of the League Cup. The striker’s exclusion from the squad last Sunday will do little to cool the speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League. Source- Spurs-Web
