Atalanta reject Manchester United's player exchange offer for Rasmus Hojlund, insisting on a straight cash deal for the striker.
Erik ten Hag has identified Hojlund as his priority choice for the center forward position following an unsuccessful pursuit of Harry Kane earlier in the transfer window.
The 20-year-old, a lifelong United supporter, has already agreed personal terms with the club. However, The Red Devils are operating with a limited budget this summer, with only £120m allocated for transfers. The recent £55m signing of Mason Mount and a potential move for Andre Onana could further increase spending beyond £100m.
With limited funds remaining, Ten Hag faces constraints in acquiring a striker. Atalanta has set an asking price of approximately £86m for Hojlund, a figure United consider excessive.
Nonetheless, United remains determined to secure the Danish talent and has attempted to be creative by offering a combination of players and cash in their bid for Hojlund, according to reports from the Athletic. The Serie A side, however insists on cash only.
