The Premier League and EFL have decided last week to postpone fixtures due to coronavirus outbreak. UEFA have also postponed all their games, however, they have announced about a meeting via video conferencing, which will decide the future of European football.
It has been suggested, that UEFA will postpone EURO 2020 and put back to summer 2021. However, the EURO 2020 is not the only problem as the presidents of both LA Liga and Serie A coordinating timings that would allow domestic leagues to finish by the end of June, or early July.
However, according to
The Athletic, UEFA may be prepared to postpone the Euros, Newcastle United and all other major clubs will have to pay the price.
UEFA are reportedly going to demand compensation of around £275 million from the individual clubs/leagues to postpone Euro 2020 by a year.
This £275m figure is what UEFA estimates it will cost to delay the European Championships back by 12 months to June 2021.
As there are just under 100 clubs in the big five leagues, thus, under £3m per club would be a small price to pay.
The report claims, if clubs/leagues agree to their compensation, a task force would then be established, including delegates of UEFA, the European Club Association (ECA) and European Leagues (EL) to provide a potential schedule for club football/leagues as a matter of necessity.
