In a time when they are supposed to be desperate, trying to rectify their place in the standings and aiming to end things on a good note before the NHL all-star break, the Calgary Flames sputtered.
And when the best hit of the night was Dennis Wideman’s odd decision to cross-check unsuspecting linesman (!) Don Henderson before heading to his team’s bench for a change, you know it’s going to be a rough night.
But all of it added up to Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to the visiting Nashville Predators which kept the Flames at 21-24-3, where they’ll sit idle through the break until welcoming the Carolina Hurricanes to the Saddledome on Feb. 3.
