Mirror: Liverpool refuse to pay Timo Werner’s release clause and withdraw from talks-

Liverpool refuse to pay £50 mln release clause for Timo Werner and have withdrawn from talks with RB Leipzig, The Daily Mirror reports. Despite the fact that Jurgen Klopp was reportedly negotiating with the player and convinced him to join the Reds, Merseyside club owners are now willing to pay the release clause because of the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.  Liverpool believe at this point Werner’s market value is £35 mln. The Premier League leaders won’t pay anything above the mentioned price.  Werner, who scored 24 goals in 28 matches this season, is one of the most wanted forwards in the market. Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea were among the clubs that are also interested in signing the 24-year-old German international.  Werner’s release clause will drop to £35 mln, according to his contract with RB Leipzig. Despite having good relationship with Liverpool, the German club won’t consider any price below the one written in player’s contract.  Earlier, Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff said: “It won’t get any cheaper. We will not sell a player below value if he is under contract for more than a year,"  "In general, we always ask the question: can we replace a player if we sell him for less than his market value?"
