Mikel Arteta set to make big decision on two Arsenal players after sealing Thomas Partey transfer

Mikel Arteta is set to make a difficult decision regarding two Arsenal players after securing the signing of Thomas Partey. Each Premier League club can only register 25 players over the age of 21 for that season's first-team matches. Of those 25 players, no more than 17 can be non-home grown players. To fill a squad of 25 players over the age of 21, a team must have at least eight homegrown players. Homegrown players are classified as having been developed at an academy of a club in the English football pyramid for at least three seasons prior to their 21st birthday - but Under-21 players are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad. And after Partey's arrival on transfer deadline day, Arsenal now have 19 players who do not qualify either as homegrown or under the age of 21. This represents a big problem for head coach Arteta. In total, the Gunners signed seven players this summer with Partey, Gabriel Magalhaes, Runar Alex Runarsson Willian, Cedric Soares, and Pablo Mari. Of the current squad, Matt Macey, Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are all over the age of 21, but qualify as home grown.
