Mikel Arteta fires response to Dean Smith over Emile Smith Rowe transfer comments

Mikel Arteta has opened up on Emile Smith Rowe, claiming he was "never worried" that the youngster would swap Arsenal for Aston Villa during the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old was linked with the move to Villa Park this summer, however, ending up signing a new long-term contract with the Gunners. "He's a good footballer! I think everyone can see that," the Villa boss Dean Smith said when being asked Smith Rowe. "He decided to stay at Arsenal. Arsenal's a big football club in its own right. He's a good player and we want good players at this football club." Arteta also shared his thoughts about the teenager's transfer talks in July. He said: "Any club has the right to make an enquiry about a player and if they believe they have the financial power to get him, they are entitled to make a bid. "There was communication between clubs regarding Emile and we made it really clear he was not for sale. "I was never worried he could leave because he is a big part of our future and what we’re trying to do as a club. "He is really happy where he is and I’m delighted to have him in my team." Gunners are set to face Dean Smith's side on Friday, with Smith Rowe possibly taking part in the game.
